Responsibilities of Members of HWC

The Housemaster is the Chairman of the HWC. The Warden is the Vice-chairman of the HWC. The House secretary is the Convenor-secretary of the HWC. HWC meetings are conducted generally once in a month and are attended by all the members of HWC. The minutes of the meetings are prepared by the House Secretary and placed before the Dean of Students for their approval.

If a HWC member fails to attend two consecutive meetings to the HWC (including those that could not be convened for the lack of quorum) without taking permission for absence from the Vice-Chairman and the House Secretary, he shall cease to be a member of the HWC. The HWC appoints two common room secretaries, Alumni secretary, Music Room Secretary, Gym Secretary.

The Warden (Dr. P M V Subbarao, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department IIT Delhi) coordinates and conducts all elections within the hostel. He communicates the opinion of the HWC before the Wardens Committee, the Boards of Hostel Management and the Dean of Students. He ensures that all the requests made by the House secretary & Mess Secretary to the Institute staff and Mess staffs, are followed and necessary action taken.

The House Secretary is the Chief Representative of the hostel in any Intra-IITD forum on matters within the preview of the HWC. He is responsible for ensuring coordination among sub-committees of the HWC, the Executive committee and the HWC itself. He takes steps to familiarize new members in particular and general body of residents of the hostel with the BHM and SAC constitutions and its residents. He reports to the HWC the follow up actions taken on the HWC’s decision.

The Mess Secretary has the overall responsibility for the management and running of the house mess. He takes all day to day decisions to ensure efficient running of the house mess to the satisfaction of the Araites. He works at all times in close cooperation and consultation with the House Secretary, Warden and Mess Committee. He signs all the bills of the mess and ensures that they are appropriate.

The Sports Secretary represents the interests of the house with the Board for Sports Activities and encourages participation in sports at the house level. He coordinates the activities of House Team Captains and sees to it that house teams are well prepared for the Inter-Hostel Tournaments and that they receive all the facilities they require. He participates in the purchase of the sports goods for the house.
